The introduction of Currenc Group’s tokenized shares marks a significant advancement in the world of digital finance. Through Securitize, the company has successfully tokenized its ordinary shares, making it the first public stock to be natively available on both Ethereum and Solana platforms.
This strategic move was revealed on April 8, 2026, and highlights a growing trend within the tokenized stock market, which has reached a total value of approximately $1 billion. Despite this impressive figure, the majority of market activity continues to stem from synthetic products rather than genuine equity ownership.
Securitize, the firm facilitating this tokenization, allows investors to own fractions of shares, down to six decimal places, while enabling 24/7 trading. This model integrates seamlessly with decentralized finance (DeFi) systems, representing a notable shift in how public equities can be traded.
According to Carlos Domingo, the CEO of Securitize, this initiative exemplifies the potential of issuer-led tokenization, where the tokens truly reflect the underlying securities. He emphasized that this initiative is about far more than merely placing shares on a blockchain, suggesting that it could lead to a more efficient and globally fluid market for public equities.
Alex Kong, founder and CEO of Currenc Group, expressed optimism regarding the utility of the tokenized shares. As a direct result of this announcement, Currenc shares experienced a 1.75% increase in value at the market opening, and over the course of the week, the stock prices rose by 8%, reflecting a more than 30% surge over the last month.
The tokenization process is designed to allow Currenc shares to serve as collateral in lending frameworks and to be used within automated market maker environments. The offering is available on a global scale, providing access to investors across regions including Asia, Europe, and the United States.
This initiative aligns with guidelines set forth by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which has consistently promoted issuer-led tokenization as a favorable approach to integrating public equity onto blockchain platforms.
Securitize is carving a niche for itself in the tokenized equity space, with ongoing plans for a merger with Cantor Equity Partners II Inc., which is also pending regulatory approval.
