Reform UK has received a substantial financial injection thanks to Christopher Harborne, a crypto investor based in Thailand. The party, led by Nigel Farage, reportedly secured an additional £3 million (approximately $4 million) in November 2025.
This latest funding marks Harborne’s continued support for Reform UK, as he had previously donated £12 million in August 2025, setting a record for the largest single donation to a UK political party from a living donor.
With a total fundraising of about $18 million in 2025, Reform UK leads the pack compared to other parties, including the Conservatives and Labour, which raised $17 million and $10 million, respectively.
Christopher Harborne, who is also known by the name Chakrit Sakunkrit, is a British national and an established figure in the aviation industry, as well as an early investor in cryptocurrency. He possesses a significant share in Tether, the company behind the popular USDT stablecoin, through compensation related to the 2016 Bitfinex incident.
Previously, Harborne contributed financially to the Conservative Party during Boris Johnson’s leadership and invested approximately $13 million into Farage’s Brexit Party during the 2019-2020 election cycle. His financial backing places him among the most significant supporters of right-wing politics in the UK.
Notably, Reform UK made headlines by being the first political party in the UK to officially accept donations in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. This decision was announced by Farage at the Bitcoin 2025 conference held in Las Vegas. The party has pledged to introduce a “Cryptoassets and Digital Finance Bill” if successful in upcoming elections, anticipated before August 2029.
The surge in donations comes amid increasing discussions among UK authorities about regulating political donations made in cryptocurrencies. A new Elections Bill is under consideration, which may include restrictions on crypto contributions, enhanced transparency measures, and tighter regulations for shell companies and unincorporated associations that could facilitate the movement of funds.
Furthermore, calls for a temporary halt on crypto donations in politics have emerged from various quarters, including Parliament. Matt Western, the head of the Joint Committee on the National Security Strategy, has advocated for limitations on funds obtained through mixers or anonymous transactions. He also suggested that all cryptocurrency transactions should be converted to fiat currency within a 48-hour timeframe.
The mounting concern among UK lawmakers, security officials, and anti-corruption advocates centers on the potential for large, difficult-to-trace cryptocurrency assets to be utilized for foreign interference or undue influence in British politics.
