In a significant move to bolster the Bitcoin ecosystem, Bitwise Asset Management has announced a donation of $233,000 to support open-source Bitcoin developers. This contribution marks the second annual disbursement from the firm, part of its commitment to allocate 10% of gross profits generated by the Bitwise Bitcoin ETF (BITB) each year.
The financial assistance will be directed towards three notable non-profit organizations: Brink, OpenSats, and the Human Rights Foundationβs Bitcoin Development Fund. These organizations have been recognized for their vital roles in financing essential development projects within the Bitcoin framework.
Hong Kim, one of the co-founders and the Chief Technology Officer at Bitwise, expressed that developers are essential yet often overlooked contributors to the Bitcoin network. Kim noted that from the outset of BITB, the firm aimed to ensure that as cryptocurrency interest surged, the individuals who sustain and secure the network would receive ongoing support. He highlighted the developers’ relentless efforts in building and maintaining the infrastructure, regardless of market fluctuations.
The significance of this donation is underscored by the growth of the Bitwise Bitcoin ETF, which, since its launch in January 2024, has attracted over $2.5 billion in inflows. As the ETF’s assets expand, Bitwise anticipates that its future contributions to open-source initiatives will increase accordingly.
At present, Bitwise manages assets exceeding $15 billion across a diverse array of over 40 crypto investment products, including ETFs, private funds, and staking strategies. The firm caters to a global clientele that includes private wealth teams, family offices, banks, and broker-dealers, with operational bases in San Francisco, New York, and London.
The financial backing from companies like Bitwise enables developers to concentrate on vital projects such as protocol enhancements and security upgrades, which are crucial for maintaining the network’s integrity. Bitwise expressed gratitude towards their investors, affirming that their trust has made such contributions feasible.
Importantly, this donation signals Bitwise’s ongoing commitment to the community that supports the largest cryptocurrency in the world. With the growth of BITB, the firm reiterated its pledge to continuously back the initiatives that empower Bitcoin’s development and stability.
