On Saturday, the co-founder of Jan3 and a well-known advocate for Bitcoin expressed his concerns on social media. He took issue with statements made by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and Chief Security Officer Philip Martin, both of whom emphasized the need for a proactive stance against the risks posed by quantum computing.
Mow conveyed that, while the implementation of post-quantum cryptography could theoretically fortify Bitcoin against future quantum attacks, hastily adopting such measures could unintentionally introduce new vulnerabilities. He highlighted issues like compatibility problems and a decrease in network efficiency due to the increased size of cryptographic signatures.
He articulated a stark warning, suggesting that a poorly timed switch might leave Bitcoin susceptible to current threats, stating that aiming for quantum safety could result in being compromised by conventional computing technologies.
