The Ethereum Foundation has made significant strides toward its ambitious staking goal, with a recent deposit that has brought it closer to a total of 70,000 ETH. On April 3, 2026, the foundation staked approximately 45,034 ETH, which increased its cumulative holdings to about 69,500 ETH, just shy of its target.
Valued at around $93 million based on the current Ethereum price, the latest deposits were executed in multiple transfers, each containing 2,047 ETH. According to on-chain data monitored by Arkham Intelligence, these transfers were made from the foundationβs multisig wallet to the Beacon Chain deposit contract, clearly indicating active support for the Ethereum network.
This initiative, launched in line with the Treasury Staking Initiative unveiled on February 24, 2026, aims to produce a yield without necessitating the sale of ETH assets. This plan arose after community feedback highlighted concerns regarding the foundationβs previous approach of liquidating ETH to cover annual operational costs estimated at around $100 million.
The foundation’s initial deposit of 2,016 ETH marked the start of this staking program, followed by a substantial increase of 22,517 ETH in late March, culminating in a total value of approximately $50 million at that time. The Ethereum Foundation anticipates that the staked ETH could yield between $3.9 million and $5.4 million annually, benefiting from an institutional staking yield projected at 2.7% to 3.8%.
All rewards generated through the staking will directly contribute to the foundationβs treasury, funding research, ecosystem grants, and operational expenses. This strategic shift from relying on ETH sales to generating revenue through staking is seen by many in the Ethereum community as a positive indication of institutional trust in the proof-of-stake model.
Using advanced open-source tools such as Dirk and Vouch for operation, the foundation ensures a diverse validator setup that mitigates the risk of client concentration. By employing Type 2 withdrawal credentials, they minimize the number of signing keys necessary, which streamlines the management of their staked position.
Prior to the April deposit, the foundation possessed about 102,400 ETH across roughly 14 addresses, along with holdings in other assets like USDC and Bitcoin, which enhances its financial agility while maintaining significant ETH stakes. This transition towards staking is likely to improve operational sustainability and foster community confidence in the Ethereum ecosystem.
