Interactive Brokers has made a significant move by launching cryptocurrency trading for retail clients across the European Economic Area (EEA). This new service allows customers to access a variety of digital assets, including Bitcoin and Ethereum, directly from their existing brokerage accounts.
The initiative, announced recently, is facilitated through the firm’s regulated entity based in Ireland, which is authorized to operate as a crypto-asset service provider. This rollout aligns with the evolving Markets in Crypto-Assets framework that is reshaping the approach of traditional financial institutions toward digital asset services in the region.
With the introduction of this service, eligible users can trade a total of 11 cryptocurrencies. Trading and custody services are powered by Zero Hash, which manages the backend infrastructure. Customers can easily navigate between cryptocurrencies and traditional assets, enjoying 24/7 trading opportunities.
Notably, the trading options include popular tokens such as Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, XRP, Cardano, and Dogecoin, all of which are integrated alongside equities and derivatives in the same platform. This seamless integration offers clients the convenience of managing different asset classes through a unified interface, with trading fees ranging from 0.12% to 0.18%.
Interactive Brokers, based in the United States, continues to expand its digital asset offerings, responding to growing interest from clients. The firm provides access to over 170 global markets and is committed to enhancing its cryptocurrency services.
In addition to crypto trading, the brokerage has been improving funding options for clients using blockchain technology. It recently broadened its stablecoin funding capability, which allows clients to deposit USDC across multiple networks, including Ethereum, Solana, and Base. These deposits are automatically converted to US dollars and credited to brokerage accounts.
Clients can also transfer supported cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum from their external wallets directly into their Interactive Brokers-linked accounts without needing to sell their assets first. This feature further streamlines the user experience and facilitates easier access to digital investments.
The introduction of retail crypto trading is expected to attract more investors to the platform, reflecting a broader trend of financial institutions embracing digital currencies. As Interactive Brokers continues to evolve its offerings, it positions itself as a key player in the rapidly changing landscape of cryptocurrency trading.
