Under Gerovich’s leadership, Metaplanet has transformed from a struggling hospitality entity into a powerhouse corporate Bitcoin holder. As of the end of 2025, Metaplanet boasted an impressive 35,102 BTC, ranking it as the fourth-largest public corporate Bitcoin holder globally. The company has ambitious plans to escalate its Bitcoin holdings to 100,000 BTC by the close of 2026 and aims for 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027, which would equate to about 1% of Bitcoin’s overall supply.
To realize these targets, Metaplanet secured around $255 million from institutional investors through a recent share placement, with possibilities of raising total funding to $531 million through fixed-strike warrants. Furthermore, the company’s expansion strategy includes the establishment of two subsidiaries: Metaplanet Asset Management and Metaplanet Ventures. These new branches will focus on supporting businesses that are developing Bitcoin-related financial infrastructure in Japan, encompassing areas such as lending, payments, custody, and compliance tools.
During an extraordinary general meeting in September 2025, Gerovich outlined how the company shifted its focus from the hospitality sector to a Bitcoin treasury operation in early 2024. This strategic pivot has yielded remarkable results, with revenue experiencing a 738% year-on-year increase, totaling 8.91 billion yen. The operating profit skyrocketed by an astounding 1,695%, largely attributed to Bitcoin option premiums, which have contributed approximately 95% to the company’s overall revenue. Gerovich noted that the key performance indicator for Metaplanet should be Bitcoin per share, which surged over 500% in 2025.
