The launch of Cardano Rosetta Java v2.1.0 introduces comprehensive governance capabilities aligned with the Conway era, including features such as SPO Voting, DRep Delegation, and CIP-129 across all endpoints.

Developers within the Cardano community have received a significant update with the arrival of Cardano Rosetta Java v2.1.0. This latest version officially incorporates full support for governance functions relevant to the current Conway phase of development, as noted by the Cardano Foundation through their communication channels.

This enhancement brings essential governance activities directly into the API, eliminating the previous need for developers to navigate around limitations. With this update, governance operations now become an integral part of the development process.

Key changes in the API have been documented in the release notes shared on GitHub. Authored recently, the update now allows for both SPO Voting and DRep Vote Delegation to function seamlessly within the construction and data endpoints. A noteworthy adjustment is that operations are now indexed in ascending order, rectifying prior complications.

Support for CIP-129 has been fully integrated. DRep IDs, which feature a 29-byte prefixed header, will no longer require a designated type field as the API can deduce the type automatically from the header byte. However, it is still necessary to declare a type for raw 28-byte IDs.

Additionally, the updated endpoints including /block, /block/transaction, and /search/transactions will now display VOTE_DREP_DELEGATION and POOL_GOVERNANCE_VOTE actions pertaining to transactions from the Conway era.

One crucial change that developers should be aware of includes adjustments to the HTTP status codes. These codes now accurately reflect the nature of the error, with all non-retriable errors resulting in a 400 Bad Request, a shift from the previous 500 Internal Server Error designation for similar issues. Developers who have set up their systems to capture 500 errors will need to revise their error management protocols before implementing the upgrade.

Transitioning from version 2.0.0 to 2.1.0 is straightforward, with a clean upgrade path that requires no resynchronization. Conversely, those updating from version 1.x.x will need to perform a complete genesis resynchronization of the yaci-indexer, although existing Cardano Node data can remain intact.

The new node version has been updated from 10.5.3 to 10.5.4, while yaci has similarly increased from 0.10.5 to 0.10.6. There is also an experimental admin interface now available for the indexer.

The Cardano Foundation clarified that upgrading to this release is not mandatory, allowing teams the flexibility to implement it according to their schedules.

In the context of the Cardano roadmap, the Conway era signifies a pivotal moment for decentralized governance, highlighting on-chain voting and enhanced participation from SPOs in decision-making. This phase enables ADA token holders to engage actively in protocol modifications.

The Rosetta API serves as a vital interface for developers and exchanges, and with the inclusion of governance operations, previous gaps are now filled. The Cardano Foundation emphasized that this upgrade marks the introduction of full governance support rather than partial or developmental capabilities.

The successful contributions to this release, made by developers including @matiwinnetou, @linconvidal, and @Sotatek-DucPhung, involved the execution of numerous pull requests. These included extensive testing for governance data endpoints and updates to the test suite.

In summary, the Cardano Rosetta Java v2.1.0 update represents a significant stride towards enriching the infrastructure layer for developers, particularly for those crafting applications that rely heavily on governance features within the Cardano ecosystem.
